Anticipated Completion: Fall 2019
This new corporate headquarters is located on a previously undeveloped, fully wooded, 21 acre site in the Washington Metro Area. The site was selected for its natural woodland setting and while the zoning allows for more substantial development on the site, the client wanted to preserve the wooded views from the building. Through the design process, we have preserved 11 acres of the existing woods and carefully crafted the entry and arrival sequence to contour to take advantage of the existing topography. The building was also sited in order to preserve a few key specimen trees and utilize them as a focal point to the west of the building.
The natural woodland is a beautiful backdrop to drifts of cherry trees along the entry drive which then organize into a formal planting in the parking lot. Understory plantings throughout the site consist of native meadow grasses and native woodland understory which enhances the natural habitat and species diversity in the site.
Julie completed the initial design and documentation for this project while she was a Partner at PWP Landscape Architecture. Julie was the Project Manager for this project and collaborated extensively with both the Design Team and the Client Team. After leaving PWP, Julie continued as the Design Landscape Architect on the project, during which significant project redesign and re-documentation occurred. Julie will continue to work with the Design Team and the Client Team for the remainder of the project to deliver the landscape design vision. Construction Completion is expected at the end of 2019.
